Major difference

Get Laravel monitoring without assembling an observability stack.

Laritor keeps setup and investigation focused on your Laravel application. Install the client, choose what to record, and use dedicated Laravel views instead of deploying a broader agent and product setup.

  • Fewer runtime components to maintain

Laritor needs its Composer client for application events. Datadog’s standard PHP tracing deployment uses a native tracing extension and Datadog Agent, which your team must keep configured and current.

  • Deeper ready-made Laravel workflows

Queue wait, backend sessions, Pennant insights, and custom event resources are built into Laritor. Datadog’s general traces and dashboards can describe your app, but require shaping broader telemetry around these workflows.

  • A clearer application monitoring bill

Laritor uses an event-based monitoring plan. Datadog products use different billing units, so combining APM, logs, infrastructure, and frontend coverage adds pricing decisions and allowances to manage.

Application monitoring with a single event allowance

All Laritor features. $20/month.

20M billable events, unlimited apps and users, and 30-day retention. Choose exceptions, detected issues, or all activity without a separate error or log quota.

Compare your usage

Laritor bills for recorded events. Datadog bills for APM hosts, trace ingestion, indexing, and separate products. Compare a standalone APM scenario below, with its annual commitment and shorter default trace retention shown clearly.

Cost calculator

Compare your workload and host costs.

Use one workload estimate for both tools. Compare Laritor’s event bill with Datadog standalone APM, including span ingestion and indexing.

Laritor / month$20.00USD · Unlimited apps and users · 30-day retention

20,000,000 billable events

Datadog APM estimate / month$136.90USD · Annual commitment · 15-day indexed spans

3 hosts · 20,000,000 user-indexed spans · 40 GB ingest

Standalone APM hosts
$108.00
Span ingestion above allowance
$0.00
Span indexing above allowance
$28.90

An APM estimate, not a complete Datadog bill. Error Tracking for errors within APM traces is included. Infrastructure, logs, standalone/log error tracking, AI Credits, and other products are excluded. The retention periods differ. Laritor includes all standard features.

Datadog standalone APM: $36 per host/month billed annually, 150 GB ingest and 1M indexed spans included per host. Additional ingest is $0.10/GB; additional 15-day indexed spans cost $1.70/M at annual rates. Shared volume = executions × events per run, rounded up. Estimated ingest = shared volume × KB ÷ 1,000,000. KB means 1,000 bytes; GB means 1 billion bytes. All shared units are assumed to be user-indexed spans for this scenario, not Datadog’s free intelligent retention. Actual span counts, sizes, and retention filters differ from Laritor billable events. Measure and adjust the shared estimate. The model assumes stable full-month hosts; autoscaling, high-watermark host billing, hourly on-demand allowances, Fargate, serverless, and negotiated terms can change costs. Trials, other telemetry, separate products, and taxes are excluded. Laritor adds $0.20 per started 100K events above 20M and shows “Ask for a quote” above $500.

Start with the Laravel app

Install, configure, and investigate using the framework your team already works with.

Laravel installation

Install the client with Composer.

Laritor collects events inside Laravel. Install its Composer package, configure your endpoint and key, run the sync command, and choose a recording filter.

Datadog’s standard PHP APM route uses its Agent and native PHP extension. That is useful across a wider stack, but requires access to runtime and server configuration.

Recording controls

Record the problems you care about.

Start with exceptions-only to retain configured events from executions containing exceptions. Choose issues-only for detected problems such as failed jobs or slow requests, or full observability for all configured activity.

Datadog also supports sampling and trace retention filters. Laritor provides application-level presets for those three Laravel monitoring needs.

Application dependencies

Check dependencies from your Laravel app.

Write a custom PHP check for a dependency your application needs and keep its results beside your application’s monitoring data.

Datadog offers broader external synthetic tests and Agent checks. Laritor’s checks answer whether the dependency works from inside your Laravel application.

Inspect the execution behind a problem

Read the application data that explains a failed request, job, or command.

Outgoing requests

Find why your API calls are failing.

A failing integration can return a valid HTTP response with unexpected content. Laritor can retain the configured outgoing payload and response beside queries, logs, and exceptions.

Datadog already traces supported cURL and Guzzle calls. Laritor adds dedicated outgoing request content views, with controls for sensitive data and collection.

Jobs and commands

Read the data behind a failed execution.

Inspect a retained job’s payload or a command’s output, then follow the related queries, logs, and API calls. These details help you reproduce the problem and understand what led to it.

Datadog supports Laravel Queue, Horizon, Artisan, and CLI tracing. The advantage here is Laritor’s dedicated Laravel execution resources and configured payload/output collection.

AI debugging

Debug with the provider and agent you use.

Use Laritor’s in-app recommendations or choose a supported AI provider and model. Connect your coding agent to Laritor MCP to retrieve exception details and retained execution context alongside your code.

Datadog also offers hosted MCP and Bits AI. Its MCP spans more operational products and can expose permission-controlled actions; Bits products use AI Credits. Laritor provides focused read-only exception context.

Debug with your AI agent

Give your agent the context
behind an exception.

Laritor MCP lets your agent retrieve exception details and the recorded execution timeline. It can inspect those events alongside your code to investigate the cause and work on a fix. In-app AI recommendations are available too.

Both tools offer in-app AI and MCP. Laritor provides focused read-only exception context and lets you choose your in-app provider. Datadog offers broader operational MCP tools and Bits AI, with Bits usage metered in AI Credits. Choose your in-app AI provider ↗

Understand Laravel behavior

Follow requests, sessions, and feature evaluations through dedicated application views.

Session journeys

Follow the requests behind a user’s journey.

Open a Laravel session to follow its retained requests. Add custom events for milestones such as a checkout attempt, payment response, or subscription change.

Datadog RUM and Session Replay show frontend interactions. Laritor session journeys focus on backend requests and their recorded events, without requiring visual browser replay.

Laravel feature flags

See how Pennant flags affect your app.

Laritor tracks Laravel Pennant evaluations, activation rates, timing, and related errors. Review the behavior of the flags already in your application.

Datadog has its own PHP flag SDK, OpenFeature support, and trace enrichment. Laritor’s distinction is automatic Pennant monitoring rather than a separate flag management service.

Custom events

Make your business operations easier to follow.

Record named milestones and debugging information inside your application. Use their metadata and timing to understand a workflow beyond framework events.

Datadog supports custom PHP spans and tags, along with metrics and logs. Laritor puts your named custom events into dedicated Laravel views and dashboard widgets.

Performance in context

Metrics reflect the selected time range and the activity your recording configuration retained.

A monitoring workspace for Laravel teams

Keep application monitoring, dashboards, and reporting together with a clear event allowance.

Monitoring costs

Pay for the events you record.

Laritor starts at $20/month for 20M billable events, unlimited apps and users, and 30-day retention. Exceptions, issues, logs, and performance events use the same allowance; larger events count in 2 KB increments.

Datadog separates host monitoring, trace ingestion, indexing, logs, and other products. Use the calculator for a qualified standalone APM scenario, then account for the other Datadog products your team needs.

Customizable dashboards

Build dashboards tailored to your Laravel team.

Choose from 85+ Laritor widgets for the requests, jobs, queries, feature flags, and application events your team follows. Create unlimited dashboards and send daily or weekly PDF snapshots.

Datadog also has customizable dashboards and recurring PDF reports. Laritor’s appeal is the Laravel widgets and application resources in one workspace, rather than an exclusive claim to customization or reporting.

Questions before switching

Datadog alternative FAQs.

Is Laritor a good Datadog alternative for Laravel?

Yes, if your main need is Laravel exception tracking, issue tracking, and application performance monitoring. Laritor combines requests, jobs, queries, logs, API calls, sessions, Pennant insights, dashboards, alerts, and AI in one Laravel workspace. Datadog is a stronger fit when you need distributed tracing across many languages, browser replay, Kubernetes, external synthetic tests, or broader security and infrastructure products.

Is Datadog Laravel native?

Datadog supports Laravel through its PHP tracing library, including framework instrumentation, Laravel Queue, Horizon configuration, and Artisan tracing in documented versions. It is a general observability platform. Here, Laravel native means primarily designed for Laravel, which describes Laritor. Check your PHP, Laravel, and tracer versions against Datadog’s current compatibility guide.

Can I use Laritor only for exception tracking?

Yes. In exceptions-only mode, Laritor retains configured events from a request, job, or command when that execution contains an exception. You can inspect its stack trace and related recorded activity. Issues-only includes detected problems, while full observability records all configured activity. Your filters determine which activity and fields are retained.

How does Laritor pricing compare with Datadog?

Laritor starts at $20/month for 20M billable events, unlimited apps and users, and 30-day retention. Datadog standalone APM starts at $36 per host per month billed annually, with span ingestion and indexing allowances. Our paid calculator models that scenario and 15-day user-indexed spans. Error Tracking for errors within APM traces is included. Infrastructure, logs, standalone/log error tracking, AI Credits, and other products can add costs. Your host count, data volume, retention, contract, and product selection determine the actual comparison.

Does a Laritor event equal a Datadog span?

No. Laritor’s event types and 2 KB billing increments differ from Datadog spans, logs, and metrics. The calculator uses one workload count and an average events-per-run input as a shared scenario estimate. It assumes one user-indexed Datadog span per shared event unit and an editable average span size. Measure actual telemetry to calibrate the assumptions. It does not calculate a complete Datadog invoice.

What happens when the Laritor estimate exceeds $500?

The calculator shows Ask for a quote when the estimated Laritor monthly price exceeds $500. At exactly $500 it still displays the calculated price. Contact Laritor for pricing at larger volumes.

Can both tools monitor Laravel queues and Horizon?

Yes. Laritor provides job failures, throughput, execution timing, dispatch delay, wait time, payloads, and related recorded events. Datadog documents Laravel Queue instrumentation, Horizon-aware worker configuration, and produce/consume trace relationships. These are different investigation views, so compare a representative job with your own versions and configuration.

Do Laritor and Datadog support AI and MCP?

Yes. Laritor has in-app AI recommendations, supported provider choices, and a hosted read-only MCP server for exception details and retained execution context. Datadog has Bits AI and a hosted MCP server across APM, logs, metrics, monitors, dashboards, security, and other tools. Datadog permissions control its available actions, and Bits usage is metered in AI Credits.

Does Datadog support PHP feature flags?

Yes. Datadog offers a PHP Feature Flags SDK, an OpenFeature adapter, evaluation metrics, and APM trace enrichment. Laritor observes Laravel Pennant evaluations and their application context. The distinction is automatic monitoring of your existing Pennant flags versus Datadog’s broader flag management product, not an absence of feature flags in Datadog.

Can both tools customize dashboards and send PDF reports?

Yes. Laritor offers unlimited dashboards with 85+ Laravel widgets and custom daily or weekly PDF snapshots by email. Datadog supports custom widgets, queries, layouts, and recurring dashboard PDF reports through email, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. Choose based on the application views and reporting workflow your team needs.

Are Laravel session journeys the same as Datadog Session Replay?

No. Laritor follows retained backend requests in a Laravel session, with user context and custom events. Datadog Session Replay shows browser or mobile interactions through client instrumentation. Backend journeys explain server activity; visual replay helps investigate what a person saw and did in the interface.

How does Laritor help with bot traffic?

Laritor shows bot and suspicious request activity alongside request performance and supports recording filters. This helps you understand automated traffic and decide what to retain. It is not a web application firewall. Datadog’s separate App and API Protection product offers threat detection and attack blocking, in addition to its APM and traffic telemetry.

Can I protect sensitive information before sending it?

Yes. Laritor has client-side collection controls and redaction for sensitive and personal information. Review headers, payloads, responses, sessions, logs, and custom event metadata before collection. Datadog also offers obfuscation, metadata controls, filtering, and optional sensitive-data products. Configure and verify the fields your own application records.

Can I run Datadog and Laritor in parallel?

Yes. Install Laritor alongside Datadog and compare them in a representative environment. Verify requests, worker execution, alerts, recording filters, event volume, and combined collection overhead with your versions and configuration before rolling out more widely.

Will existing Datadog history transfer to Laritor?

Laritor records new activity after you install and configure its client. There is no documented automatic import of Datadog telemetry history. Keep access to the historical data you still need while Laritor builds its own record of your application.

About this comparison

Sources and comparison notes.

Published by Laritor, independently of Datadog. Official pricing, APM billing, PHP compatibility and configuration, error tracking, logs, feature flags, dashboards, scheduled PDF reports, infrastructure, security, profiling, OpenTelemetry, and AI/MCP documentation were reviewed on . Feature availability depends on runtime and SDK versions, collection setup, product access, and permissions.

“Laravel native” means primarily designed for Laravel. Datadog supports Laravel within a much wider platform. “Not listed” describes an equivalent dedicated resource not found in the reviewed documentation; custom instrumentation or an integration may cover that need. Datadog’s PHP flag management is distinguished from automatic Laravel Pennant monitoring, and frontend Session Replay from Laravel backend session journeys. Both tools offer custom dashboards, scheduled PDF reports, and MCP. Laritor’s bot recording filters do not provide Datadog’s separate attack-blocking capabilities.

The calculator models annual-commitment standalone Datadog APM with stable full-month hosts, monthly allowances, and 15-day user-indexed spans. Laritor includes 30-day retention. One shared workload estimate is used with an editable Datadog span-size assumption. Vendor records are different; the model assumes one indexed span per shared event unit, and measured usage should replace that assumption. Free intelligent retention, different sampling, autoscaling, hourly on-demand allowances, Fargate/serverless pricing, additional products and telemetry, taxes, and negotiated terms can change costs. Error Tracking for errors within APM traces is included. Infrastructure, logs, standalone/log error tracking, AI Credits, and other Datadog products are excluded from the estimate. This is an APM scenario, not a complete platform invoice or a universal savings claim.
